For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
In Greek mythology when you read about the Greek gods, you will always find that while each one has a great power, they also have a great weakness; a human trait weakness. Aphrodite while beautiful (the goddess of love) is also characterized as vain, ill-tempered and easily offended and jealous. Zeus, who is the “king of the gods” is known for his erotic escapades, and affairs. Achilles was a great warrior who’s weakness is in his heel. He was killed by an arrow in the heel. Thus the reason a person’s principal weakness is known as his “Achille’s Heel”. (ok stick with me, there is a good point 🙂 )
From the beginning of time, Jehovah God has had all that He created worship and bow to him. He has a great assembly of angels that praise him all day long, for eternity. Yet he longed to have one with a free will who wanted to worship him, and wanted to be with him. One who would love him because they chose too, not because they had too. Maybe after Lucifer’s uprising and exile was when he began wondering “if one had a choice would they choose to love me”. (Haven’t we all been there? You wonder if any man will love you, then you get married and wonder if he would really choose you over something else important to him?…)
…So God created us, one that could choose freely. Then, through deception, men and women did in deed break God’s heart. But God was so in love with us, and wanted to be with us that He was willing to do anything to find a way back to us. Anything to keep us from being separated from him; after all we are His true love. So he made covenant with a man named Abraham, and through Abraham’s love and willingness to give anything to God (including his son; his one and only son Isaac) God could and would do the same. Because while He loved Abraham and the Israelite people, it wasn’t enough for Him; He wanted full access to all our hearts.
He sent Jesus (God’s one and only son) perfect in every way (no human weakness), and asked him to take our place of judgment, and true love prevailed. See this weekend as we celebrate Jesus’ resurrection, we need to remember that this is a love story. One that crosses all time, and that even death could not stop.
You are God’s only weakness, He loved you so much He gave His son for you! No matter where you are today, whether single, happily married, or struggling in your marriage, He wants you to know that He is your “Knight in Shining Armour” who slayed the dragon. He has made the ultimate sacrifice to have the right to be the lover of your soul. And not even death could separate you from His love.
